What Is SIL?

Empowering people with disability to live well

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS-funded support that enables people with disability to live as independently as possible, in their own home or a shared supported environment, with the right level of daily assistance around them.

At 1 Care Connect, our supported independent living approach is guided by a qualified nursing team. This means every SIL participant benefits from clinical oversight, consistent support workers who truly know them, and a home environment designed around their goals.

Is SIL funded by the NDIS? Yes. Supported Independent Living is funded under the NDIS as part of your Supports in Daily Life funding. Your support coordinator or Local Area Coordinator can help you include SIL in your NDIS plan.

Common Questions

Supported independent living, answered

What is Supported Independent Living (SIL)?

Supported Independent Living is an NDIS-funded support that helps people with disability live as independently as possible, in their own home or a shared supported environment, with the right level of daily assistance. At 1 Care Connect, every SIL home is guided by a qualified nursing team.

Is SIL funded by the NDIS?

Yes. Supported Independent Living is funded under the NDIS as part of your Supports in Daily Life funding. Your support coordinator or Local Area Coordinator can help you include SIL in your plan. You can read more on the NDIS website.

Who does 1 Care Connect support in SIL homes?

We specialise in supported independent living for participants with physical disabilities and low behavioural complexity. Our nurse-led team provides clinical and personal care within the SIL environment, including for participants with complex health needs.

Do you have SIL vacancies right now?

Yes. We have SIL and SDA vacancies across New South Wales, including Blacktown, Fairfield, Cessnock, Ballina and Banora Point. Browse each home above or check our current vacancies, then contact us to discuss suitability and arrange a viewing.

Will I have the same support workers?

Yes. Unlike providers who rotate staff constantly, our SIL homes have a stable, consistent team who knows you, your preferences and your routines. That consistency is central to how we work and to better outcomes for the people we support.

What is the difference between SIL and SDA?

SIL is the support you receive to live independently. SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation) is the specially designed housing itself. Some participants have both. We can support you across both, and our services page shows how everything joins up.
