How the NDIS funds nursing at home

The NDIS lists supports for continence, wound and pressure care for slow to heal wounds, respiratory care, dysphagia, diabetes management and seizure monitoring, among others.

Where it stops

Does the NDIS pay for nursing at home?
It can. The NDIS may fund disability-related health supports, and lists funding for someone to provide them, like a nurse. The support has to relate to your disability rather than to a health condition the health system should treat.
Can a support worker do clinical tasks instead of a nurse?
Sometimes, and the NDIS may fund the training. That person must be trained by an appropriately qualified health professional, trained for that task specifically for you, experienced in it and competent to provide the support.
What does nurse-led actually mean?
It means registered nurses shape the care plan itself, rather than being brought in only to carry out tasks. When you compare providers, ask who writes the care plan and whether a nurse is involved before support starts.
Will I see the same nurses each time?
That is what we aim for, and it is worth asking any provider directly. With clinical care, continuity is how changes get noticed early.
Can nursing be combined with daily support?
Yes, and it usually is. Personal care, household help and community access can sit alongside clinical care from the same provider, which keeps the plan joined up.
What if my needs are too complex for home?
Then we will tell you. For some people supported independent living is the safer answer, and that is a conversation worth having honestly rather than late.
